Are you looking to give your property’s curb appeal an uplift? If so, you should know that a fresh coat of paint on your exterior is exactly what you need. However, it is not all about taking a can of paint and then starting to paint, you have to prepare the property first. Having said that, here is what we are talking about;
Clean the exterior – before you apply fresh paint on a surface, you have to ensure that it is clean first. So, you have to wash the exterior first, from, to bottom. The best tool to use would be a pressure cleaner as it works pretty efficiently. And if there is mold or severe stains on the exteriors, a detergent would also be a great idea. After the cleaning, let it dry first!
Scrap any loose paint – once the exteriors have dried, there could be some dry and loose paint hanging over – you will need to scrape it off using either sandpaper or paint scrapers.
Seal any gaps – use caulk to apply on cracked seams to completely seal them, and then wipe away the excess using a damp rag. However, you must be cautious not to seal the ventilation gaps.
Make home repairs – being the exterior, it is common to find weathered wood. If you have such, you need to sand it to remove the discoloured service, making sure that the paint you are about to apply will at least hold. you also need to check if there are any rotten areas, and if any, be sure to replace the wood, especially if the rot is deep and widespread.
Trim any nearby bushes – do you have a bush or flower fence on your exterior? If so, you need to ensure that you trim and cover them. If there are trees be sure to always pick up the falling leaves. But when painting, cover them to prevent these leaves from hitting the wet paint.
