Homeowners always wish that paints could last forever, but unfortunately, they don’t. Just the same way you replace other areas in your home is the same way you will have to replace that decade-old paint job. But how can you tell when it is time to repaint your home? Well, you need to look for the following signs;

The paint is cracking, bubbling, and/or peeling – this means one of two things; either the paint was poorly applied, or you are dealing with mold, wet or dry rot. If it’s the latter, it only means the years of harsh weather conditions have taken their toll, and aside from repainting, you will have to take extra steps to protect your home from mold or rot.

Faded paint – over time, paint usually fades away, no matter what you do. This could be a result of sun bleaching or even water intrusion. Regardless of what it may be, it means that you will need to repaint, and it’s because of water intrusion, you will need to find the water leak and fix it.

The paint color has morphed – the same sunlight makes the paint’s color to fade away, it can also cause it to morph into a different shade or color entirely. To prevent this from happening, you might want to consider repainting your home with an exterior grade paint that is capable of withstanding everything the sun throws at it.

The caulk has cracked or hardened – with the changes in seasons, your house is set either to expand or contract. Now, caulk expands and contracts with it, and after so many years of this happening makes the caulk start losing its elasticity. So, when you find that the caulk has hardened or has cracks, then you will need to recaulk and repaint your home.

Time has passed – the fact that you don’t see any of the signs listed above doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t repaint your house. As a matter of fact, when you repaint within a reasonable timeframe, you will prevent these signs from occurring in the first place. So, you might want to repaint your house after every five to ten years, with some areas in the house requiring you to attend to them sooner.

Now if you find any of these signs, then it’s certainly time to repaint and you will need to get in touch with our House Painting Los Angeles team to come to repaint your house. We will ensure that your home looks new again.
