Giving your room a new and high-standard plaster can be incredibly satisfying. But did you know something, you need to treat thee plastered wall very carefully if you are to get the best finish. Remember, you still have to paint the fresh plaster, and here is how you can ensure that you do it like a pro;
Painting fresh plaster – from the looks of it, painting a fresh plaster might seem like an easy task, but the truth is, if you make the mistake of rushing the job, you will most likely struggle in getting a high-quality finish that you might be after. So, you must ensure that the wall is dry first. So, depending on the type of plaster it is, you have to give it as much time as is needed for it to dry. And it has to be natural, not trying to dry the wall manually, as it would lead to cracks. You can facilitate natural drying by always leaving the windows open.
Mist coat – a mist coat is essentially a watered-down coat of emulsion that penetrates into the plaster so as to create a surface for the thicker coats to stick to. Now, the ratio of water to emulsion must really balance, but this will of course depend on a number of factors. However, many decorators suggest a 50/50 or a 70/30 water to paint. Whichever you choose, just make sure that the mist does have the paint to seal the plaster effectively, and is also watery enough. Once you apply the mist coat, be sure to give it at least 24 hours to dry.
Top coat – after the mist coat dries, now you can paint your top coats. In doing so, ensure that you cut around the edges first before applying the paint to the rest of the wall with a smooth roller. Also, remember one thing, the kind of brush you are using will matter in getting good results, so, never compromise.
